BYOD Policy and Mission Statement
BYOD is a privilege, no student has the right to bring their own technology to school. Abuse of this privilege will result in a ban of personal technology used at school.
Students without personal technology will always have access to either a desktop, laptop, chromebook or iPad. Bringing your own device to school is done at your own risk. It is suggested that student devices are locked up when not in used. Devices are only to be used a designated times, set by the teacher and any use outside that time, will result in the device being taken away. Device notifications must be turned off at all times. During instructional time, device screens must be off and placed face down on or inside desks. If the above rules are not followed, the following actions will take place. First Misuse of device will result in a verbal warning and device will be taken for the day, given back at the end. Second Misuse the device will be taken away for the day, and retuned at the days end. Student will not be allowed to bring their device for one week and their parents will be contacted about the offence. If the device is seen during the one week ban, the device will be taken away and a parent/guardian will have to pick it up from school and this will result in a complete ban of device from school. Frequent Misuse. If a student has their device suspended twice throughout the year they will be banned from bringing their device to school until told otherwise. |
Students today have never known a time without technology. There is no resisting the advancement of technology, it's going to happen wether we like it or not. "Why resist change when you can embrace it." As a teacher, it is my job to help students use the technology they have, and teach them to use it for a purpose beyond texting and selfies. I want to turn students personal devices into a tool that will help them study for tests, collaborate with their others on a project, or properly connect with the endless amount of information that is at their finger tips. Why a BYOD Classroom? 1. Student participation increases "It only makes sense to utilize their love for technology in the classroom if you really want to get them engaged." 2. Learning becomes student driven "Teaching in the digital age is becoming less about directly transferring knowledge and more about showing students how to sift through vast amounts of information to find the knowledge they need." 3. Student collaboration and communication increases "Collaboration is key to engagement in today’s classrooms. Students will use technology to communicate with their peers and with me." 4. Personalized Instruction. "They can easily bring their homework, educational games, projects with them. Everything they need to continue learning outside the classroom can be accessed anytime, anywhere, with the swipe of a finger." 5. A new way of learning. "Incorporating student-owned mobile computing devices into the curriculum will help direct instruction methods into project-and inquiry-based learning opportunities. This pedagogical approach helps students learn by doing and gives them ownership of their education." |
